SIMCITY 4 SIMCITY 3000 THE SIMS 2 THE SIMS SPORE CLASSIC SIMS FORUMS |
Screenshot Analysis The Sims 2 has brought up many questions about how it will work and what it will do. SimGlobal has taken a look at some of the screenshots released to the public and has made some observations about the game. While there is no guarantee about any of the theories presented, they still are valid theories about The Sims 2, and are based on reasoning and observation. Click in the red boxes to see what we've figured out about each specific topic.
General: First off, note the 3D graphics. There seems to be a diffrent angle of view for the entire game. Whereas in the original, your point of view was from around a 30 degree angle or so, in this new game, it seems as though the angle is reduced to 15 or 20 degrees. Also, notice that in none of the screenshots released to the public has daytime been shown. It looks like Maxis hasn't gotten daytime to look good just yet. Control Panel: Notice that all the familiar controls are still there. Maxis has found a control panel that works, and it looks like they are sticking to it. Also notice the dollar amount in the budget space. It certainly looks like a negative number. Can Sims go into debt? It may be possible. The dollar sign in this screenshot simply means that Maxis hasn't yet gotten their Simoleon sign to replace the dollars just yet. Level Control: Other than the original two levels that came with The Sims, The Sims 2 seems to have more than just the two levels. There are two arrows by the house, one pointing up, one down, implying a building could have a basement and third floor. It is even concievable the building could have more than just four floors. Control Panel Sim: Note the sim in the control panel. The background indicates mood of the Sim, and there is a small arrow at the bottom right corner of the Sim's box. This arrow could lead to a number of things, including needs, relationships, or skills. This corner box will likely serve as a quick, easy, and unintrusive way to check on a sim, without needing to pull out all the live mode controls. Selected Sim Pylon: The pylon that floats above the selected Sim's head has been advanced. Gone are the days of the perfectly opaque pylon, replaced by a translucent one that seems to provide a more natural look to a very unnatural item. Fruits: Not only are they yet another decorative item, the are also extremely detailed. The new 3D engine allows for incredible detail of every single grape, all the imperfections of the bananas, and the details of the oranges. This detail is applied to every single opbject in the game. Expressions: Take a look at the expression on that Sim's face! Her counterpart (the selected Sim) seems to be smiling, or in some way pleased with what she sees. However, the Sim on the right of the screenshot seems utterly dismayed, not only because of the way she is holding her hands, but also because of that look of scorn she seems to have on her face. That shows how the subtle expressions can add life to the game, as well as inform the player about character disposition. Group Activity: A grandmother and her grandson playing the playstation. Nothing the original game can't do. But in this screen, they are sitting on the floor. Could that mean that sims are not required to sit on a couch or stand while they watch TV? Does that mean Sims might be able to sit on end tables, beds, and floors? Not necessarily, but it certainly is possible. The Television: Here, a television sits on a stand in all its glory. The details are incredible. Every wire has a place, and every fan is visible. But wait. Every wire has a place? Those wires don't just connect the TV to itself, they also connect the TV to a VCR and who knows what else. Could this mean that objects can now interact much more than they do in The Sims? Or is the TV, the stand, and the VCR all part of one object? Because of the playstation on the floor in front of the TV, I'm inclined to think that objects will have an increasing reliability on each other. |
