From The Sims 2 Box

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM (such as nvidia GeForce 2 or better or ATI Radeon 7000 or better) then you need at least:

  • 800 MHz P3 processor
  • 256 MB RAM if Windows XP
  • 8x or faster DVD drive (for DVD version)
  • At least 3.5 gb of free space
  • Video card must have 32mb of video ram or greater; one of the follwing T&L chipsets:
  • ATI Radeon 7000 or greater
  • nVidia GeForce 2 or greater

Recommened video cards (and the more video memory the better):

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
  • Nvidia Geforce 4

From the nVidia website's glossary Transform & Lighting (T&L) definition: Two separate engines on the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) that provide for a powerful, balanced PC platform and enable extremely high polygon count scenes. Transform performance determines how complex objects can be and how many can appear in a scene without sacrificing frame rate. Lighting techniques add to a scene's realism by changing the appearance of objects based on light sources.

Some other notes about video cards: T&L video cards started shipping around 3 years ago, so if you got your computer in the last couple of years you should check and see if you have a T&L card.

It's always a good idea to make sure you have the most current drivers for your video cards. The manufacturers usually have the video drivers on their sites for you to download. Visit the nVidia site or the ATI for the latest drivers for those video cards.

  • Mac OS X 10.3.8 or later
  • PowerPC G4/G5

Operating Systems- Windows PC, Macintosh (OS X)

Overview- The Sims 2 brings an entirely new level of complexity and detail to the "sim" genre. You will now be able to customize your sim's "DNA" allowing for highly personalized sims. This "DNA" will also be reflected in your sim's children. First appearing as a minor role in SimCity 4, your sims will now age and die, from birth to childhood to adulthood. Along with this, an all new "Create-A-Sim" feature will allow you to modify your sim's facial features with extreme detail.

In The Sims 2, you are no longer restricted to two story buildings, however it is unknown how high, or for that matter how low you will be able to build your sim's home.

One thing that has already caused some stir is the creation of very open ended goals in The Sims 2, called "Life's Big Moments." Depending on what you choose to do during these moments your sim's "Life Score" will be affected as well as their long term success or failure.
