The Sims Unleashed- One Great Value

Out of all the Sim Community here at SimGlobal we have been more vocal about not wanting new expansion packs for several reasons, mainly stemming from a lack of value, and a want for Maxis to move on sooner to The Sims 2. But The Sims Unleashed has changed this.

After the disappointments following The Sims House Party, Hot Date and Vacation we really were not expecting to much more from another expansion pack. Although the above did add objects, interactions and some functionality, they weren't worth the $30. So when orderinh The Sims Unleashed it was more for the value of collecting rather than playing. Or so ew thought.

The Sims Unleashed has changed quite a bit about The Sims. For the first time since Livin Large, neighborhoods have been completely revampted to now allow not only for more homes, but also make more of a community with the ability to add shops with the neighborhood, meaning you dont have to switch over to the Hot Date area anymore, although that option is still available.

Although the pets are fun, they really aren't as impressive as the new neighborhood interface. What really compared to the interface was the substantially increased performance. While you do have to have a more recent machine to really take full advantage of it, you no longer have to wait for each of your new neighborhoods to slowly incorporate The Sims Hot Date neighborhood or Vacation Neighborhood. While traditionally one might wait upwards of 5 minutes for this to happen, The Sims Unleashed loaded both with less than 20 seconds for each. Along with that you no longer have to wait up to a minute while switching neighborhoods as would sometime happen in House Party, Hot Date, or Vacation. This process is now near instantaneous.

Another area you might notice a speed increase is in actual gameplay. You may also notice on slower machines less moments your computer lags or locks up.

Overall, The Sims Unleashed is an excellent buy, if not for the pets but for the great functionality changes and new neighborhood layout. So after if after Livin Large you consider another expansion pack, keep The Sims Unleashed in mind.
