SIMCITY 4 SIMCITY 3000 THE SIMS 2 THE SIMS SPORE CLASSIC SIMS FORUMS |
June 2, 2002 By Matej SimGlobal officially turned 1 year old yesterday! And, to commemorate, we're giving you a timeline of SimGlobal's history. June 1, 2001: SimGlobal opens its doors to the public. The hosts were webexalt, they were free, and they gave us 12 megabytes of space. Part of this site is still up! Check it out! June 2, 2001: Our first problem arose! It turned out that Webexalt didn't allow any files ending in .bld, .iff, etc. So we had to zip up our files. We eventually ended up making installers for most of our files, but that came later... June 7, 2001: We asked, for the first time for your files! We set up a special e-mail account at Yahoo!, and asked you to email any and all sim-related files. That e-mail account remains empty. June 22, 2001: SimGlobal went down. Webexalt suddenly died off, and SimGlobal died with it. A week later, we finally resurfaced, with only minor damage done to the site. July 11, 2001: The first skins were put of for The Sims. They are still available for download, including one with the old SimGlobal logo! The first four were the ones that were uploaded on the 11th. July 28, 2001: A new "The Sims Online" section was added. Two new skins were made, and we haven't made a skin since then. A SimCity "X" (Now known as SimCity 4) section was added, with very little information. August 1, 2001: A full-featured preview of The Sims Online was added. That makes it the first ever preview on SimGlobal! August 13, 2001: We advertised a preview of Simsville that would come within a month. Little did we know... September 21, 2001: Simsville was cancelled! Our Simsville section remained online, but all the text was crossed out and a big, red "CANCELLED" was stamped across it. October 26, 2001: Our first major update of the web site. Nothing new was visible, but the entire site ended up looking much better, and cleaner, too. January 1, 2002: Exactly 6 months after first appearing on the internet, SimGlobal transfers hosts. We change from simglobal.webexalt.com to simglobal.net. Also, a major redesign of our site is done. We go from our old yellow/orange designe to our sleek, new blue and white design that we still have today. January 8, 2002: We get our forums up and running. They are still available today, but they are slightly re-designed from the original (thanks to PhpBB 2.0). Check them out! February 22, 2002: For the first time, we had server trouble with our new hosts, who deleted all our files. They were re-uploaded almost a month later by us, after our nice hosts didn't tell us why they got rid of the files. March 16, 2002: We got ourself an online store! You can still check it out over at cafepress.com/simglobal! Have fun, and buy something! March 25, 2002: SimCity 4 is announced. This is a major event for SimGlobal, as we were the first site online (that we know of) to give a review of the magazine. Today, we are running full steam ahead, and working on SimCity 4 news. April 18, 2002: SimGlobal got itself a building exchange! Some nice folks sent us some buildings, and we uploaded them, creating the SimGlobal building exchange for SimCity 3000. June 1, 2002: SimGlobal moves to yet another host/server. This time, we hope we'll stay there. The nice folks at SimGames.net gave us an offer we couldn't refuse. Aside from that, SimGlobal turned 1 year old! Those are some of the highlights from the past year of serving the Sim community. Three servers in a year. That has got to be a record. It has been a good year, and we hope for many more to come! Cheers! Matej |
